PROJECT HK-UK:
DESIGN, ARTISTRY AND CRAFTSMANSHIP
Organised by Hong Kong Furniture & Decoration Trade Association (HKF&DA), with Create Hong Kong (CreateHK) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as the Lead Sponsor, "PROJECT HK-UK: DESIGN, ARTISTRY AND CRAFTSMANSHIP” is a mentorship programme nurturing new generation Hong Kong designers. It also aims to strengthen the design capabilities of local furniture manufacturers and increase the global competence of local furniture design. The programme will elevate the vision and design skills of the participants.
The programme has invited 6 Hong Kong (HK) designers to provide 6 furniture design briefs, which will be handled by 6 UK designer units and 12 groups of HK designers. These 12 groups are formed by more than 30 HK budding designers, who will work under the guidance of experienced HK designers and production mentors. These budding designers include design start-ups, young designers and recent graduates. These 18 designer units from UK and HK created furniture pieces for exhibition in HK in late 2019 and in Milan Design Week 2022.
On top of displaying their work in exhibitions, participants also visited London Design Week and Kingston School of Art in the UK in September 2019. The programme also includes a series of factory and studio visits to broaden the design horizon of the participants.
